Eid Al Adha
by A. Asim

Asalaam Aw Alaikum

I thought I’d let you know about Eid Ul- Adha. The Eid coming up on Tues/Wed. Its important being Muslim to know and understand this celebrating day and even more important for our children to know of this special day inshAllah.

Significance of Eid ul-Adha

Qurbani (act of sacrifice animal) and the festival Eid Ul Adha is an act to commemorate Prophet Ibraheem (AS) sacrifice as mentioned in the Quraan.

The story of Ibraheem (AS)
When Ibraheems son Ismael (AS) was old enough to walk/work with him he received a dream from Allah (SWT). Surah 37 (As Saffat);

102.When he (Ismail) grew strong enough to work with him, he (Abraham) said, "My son, I saw in a dream that I am to slaughter you. What do you think?" He said, "O my father, do what you are commanded to do. You will find me, God willing, patient."

103.They both submitted, and he put his forehead down (to slaughter him).

104.We called him: "O Abraham.

105."You have believed the vision?" We thus reward the righteous.

106.That was an exacting test indeed.

107.We made a concession for him in place of a great slaughter.

108.And we preserved his history for subsequent generations.

109.Peace be upon Abraham.

110.We thus reward the righteous.

111. He is one of our believing servants.

Upon Allahs command to Prophet Ibraheem both himself and his son submitted their will to Allah. His ‘Sacrifice’ had already been fulfilled, showing his love for Allah and above all submitting to Allah. All prophets of Allah were sent to teach our ummah (Islamic community) a lesson and dean (faith) sending one message - oneness of Allah  (Islam). This lesson is to love Allah more than anything/anyone. This doesn't mean go sacrificing anyone rather that was a test for our prophet to help us appreciate life and Allahs mercy on his prophets and us (Muslims). As he is the only one who can grant Jannah (paradise ), save you from jahanam (Hell), forgive your sins, grant blessing/mercy, accept your good righteous deeds and wash away your bad ones.

Bearing in mind Allah says in Quran that if you kill one soul it is as if you killed all of mankind and if you save one soul it is as if you saved all of mankind.

Qurbani is Fard (Obligatory)

Qurbani is obligatory for us to do just like Zakat , anyone who has financial means and savings, surplus on his own needs over a year.

Eid Prayer

It is necessary (wajib) to offer two rakaats of prayer as a form of gratitude. Which can only be done in the Masjid - in Jamat.

Also Prophet Muhammed (SAW) said this day is a festival so we must enjoy it.

The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, They are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance of God. Authentic (Hadith Bukhari)

Here is one website  good organisations you can give money for your Qurbani. Give whole lamb/sheep/cow etc to charity on your behalf. They are legitimate J

·         http://welcome.alkhair.org/  - click on make Qurbani

·         The regents park organisation is too filled unfortunately. By the way you need to make Qurbani before eid prefereably so that they will receive it by eid inshAllah.

·           "Surely Abraham was an example, obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not of the polytheists. He was grateful for Our bounties. We chose him and guided him unto a right path. We gave him good in this world, and in the next he will most surely be among the righteous." (Qur'an 16:120-121)
